ZARights: Wearing the Values That Shape Our Democracy

The Nelson Mandela Foundation believes that Madiba's legacy is not something confined to history books or commemorated only on special occasions. Featuring themes of dignity, freedom of expression, citizenship and equality, each piece has been thoughtfully designed to encourage dialogue around the principles that continue to shape South Africa's democracy. By reimagining constitutional values as wearable statements, ZARights transforms empathy, respect and justice into something we can carry with us every day. More than a clothing collection, it is an effort to revitalise interest in South Africa's Bill of Rights, celebrating it as a shared public resource that continues to shape our identity and strengthen our democracy.
A Movement With Its Own Soundtrack
The ZARights campaign was born from a simple idea: the Constitution should not exist only as a legal document. Its values should be understood, celebrated and lived by every South African.
Created to mark the 25th anniversary of South Africa's Constitution, the campaign was designed to make the Bill of Rights more approachable and meaningful, encouraging people to see themselves not only as citizens, but as active custodians of the rights and freedoms it protects.
Because every movement has its own rhythm, the campaign is accompanied by the original song and music video, Mayibuye iAfrika. Bringing together music, fashion and visual storytelling, the project celebrates the enduring ideals of democracy, justice and human dignity while inspiring a new generation to engage with the Constitution in a way that feels relevant, hopeful and deeply human.
